About Therapy
FAQ's
What is therapy?
Therapy is a safe and confidential space to explore and process current stressors, mental health concerns, and how to navigate interpersonal relationships. As sessions progress, we will work towards increasing self-regulation, developing life skills, and navigating challenges while also processing emotions related to past and current wounds to promote long-term healing. The more unaware we are of these thoughts, feelings, motives, and behaviors, the more they control us; therefore, we work together to explore these barriers and produce healing and freedom. Because we will be accessing emotions that have been neglected, therapy can feel worse before you feel better, but like setting a broken bone, we must set it (which hurts) before it can truly be healed.
What can I expect from my first appointment with a therapist?
Before your first appointment with a therapist, feeling nervous about what you should expect or say is normal. The primary intention of your therapist is to get to know you and understand why you have made the appointment, what steps you have already taken to address the issue, and what you hope to achieve through therapy. Your therapist will ask about your relationships, work, school, and background information. You'll set goals once you decide to work together. Let your therapist know if you're uncomfortable - they can refer you to another therapist.
Can I expect to feel better right away?
Therapy is emotionally challenging but worth the effort, and you may feel worse before you feel better. Making changes can be difficult, but the long-term benefits of successful therapy far outweigh the short-term distress.
How long do I need to be in therapy?
I meet clients weekly or biweekly. Each session lasts 50 minutes for individual or couples therapy. Consistency maximizes impact and allows progress toward your goals. Your treatment time is up to you! Some individuals require a few sessions, while others commit to longer periods for more in-depth work.
How do I get started?
To take the first step, email me at lisa.peredia@gmail.com. I will reply within 1-2 business days if you are unavailable when you contact me.
As part of my services, I offer a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation, during which we can discuss your treatment goals and assess whether I am the right therapist for you. During this consultation, you are welcome to ask me any questions, and we can discuss your treatment goals.
If we decide to work together, we will coordinate our schedules and fix a convenient appointment. However, if I am not the right fit for you, I will gladly offer referrals to other providers or services that may be better suited for your situation.
Do you take any insurance?
We do not currently offer any services that insurance providers cover; however, we can provide you with a Superbill that you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement. Please note that as the client, it is your responsibility to coordinate the reimbursements with your insurance provider.
How do you accept payment?
I accept payment via the HIPAA secure IVY PAY app.
